Water

• Installation of a “smart” Water Leak Detector. There are multiple brands available but the best ones not only detect water leaks but shut the water off to the home in the event of a leak.  Also, the app would allow the homeowner to monitor and control the water system remotely.

Electricity

• Installation of a full or partial home back-up Generator. Operational systems in the home during a power outage is vital to disaster prevention/mitigation.  Sump pumps, refrigerator/freezer contents, and electric heat systems during the winter months are vulnerable.

• If you do not have a back-up Generator, we would recommend at a minimum that each sump pump in the home be outfitted with a back-up Battery Pack.

Appliances

• When away for 5 days or more at a time:

  • Ice Makers should be emptied and turned-off.

  • Misc. appliances and electrical devices should be unplugged.
